Celebrating Success in Room 17

Last Saturday, Lucas, a hockey player for the Silverdale Comets,
was awarded player of the day.
He was the goalie and he worked hard to keep a Hukanui team
from scoring goals.
He said "I am very proud of myself and my team for winning."
Here is a picture of Lucas with his Player of the Day trophy.

Dan Carter Visited Our School

As the Ambassador for Healthries, Dan Carter presented our school with a $10,000 cheque for sports equipment.   After the presentation he spent time with the classes talking about his life as an All Black and answering questions.  A highlight for our class was having a photograph taken with him.

Here are the TV 1 and TV 3 links.

Some Room 17 Comments about his visit:

I thought it was the best day ever !

Today was really awesome because Dan Carter came to our school!

It was really neat that our school won $10,000 of sports equipment.

Dan Carter was very nice and friendly.

We found out he is a famous rugby player.

He is very friendly and confident.

He taught me netball tag.

I was really fascinated by the answers to his questions.

We got to be on TV.

It was cool that our class got a photo with Dan Carter.

We got posters with Dan Carter’s signature on them.

Road Art Show

We had two opportunities to visit this amazing exhibition of art by New Zealand artists.
The first visit involved looking at the art and trying to find answers to a number of questions.
The children enjoyed working together on this challenge.

On our second visit we sketched a number of artworks that we liked....

The children did some very detailed sketches.

One of the sketching tips was ...

to look at the artwork (not your paper) when sketching.

Road Safety Week

This week we talked about what it means to be safe on the road.  We all use roads  -  walking, running, cycling, passengers in car or catching the bus.
From our discussion we decided it was important to act responsibly when we used the roads.

Check out the Road Safety Week Site for more information                      www.brake.org.nzwww.roadsafetyweek.org.nz.

Here are some of the amazing road safety posters Room 17 children created on publisher.

Come in and have a look at them as well - there are still a few more to be printed.
